(New Exclusive Interview) More Than Hip Hop Talks With The Liquids Club

1. How long has your company been around?

In our case, it's taken about 6 years for us to be an overnight success.

2. What makes your bottled water any different from the brands we already know and love?

Choosing the right brand of water is critical, and according to Consumer Reports, selecting the right brand may be a life or death decision. “Over the past few years, as consumers have worried more about the quality of municipal tap water, bottled water has surged in popularity. But a CR investigation has found that in some cases bottled water on store shelves contains more potentially harmful arsenic than tap water flowing into some homes”. Consumer Reports also states that “You can also limit exposure to arsenic in drinking water—tap or bottled—by running it through a reverse osmosis filter, but that can be pricey”. The vast majority of bottled water on the shelves today starts out the same, as tap water. The difference is in what is added or taken away from the source water. In our case, because Liquids Club water is filtered by reverse osmosis, the beginning process is literally cleaner and purer and we haven't even added our unique blend of minerals that makes Liquids Club water optimally hydrating yet. We will cover the health benefits in more detail below, but one of the major reasons for selecting Liquids Club water is how we are easy on the environment. Our bottles are biodegradable and with the insidious amounts of plastic in our landfills, oceans, rivers, waterways, and seafood, it should make our customer’s content to know that with Liquids Club, they are not adding to the problem. Ultimately, Liquids Club water is healthier. Healthier for the body and healthier for the environment.

3. What value does the customer get from drinking The Liquids Club Bottled water?

The consumer benefits are all related to health and hydration. These are the enhancements
made to the water that The Liquids Club waters offer:
● Alkaline water is made to reduce the acidity of the body’s internal organs and blood.
● Oxygenated water is made to increase the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream reducing recovery times from exercise and increasing blood flow to the muscles.
● Electrolytes are chemicals that conduct electricity when mixed with water. They regulate nerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure, and help rebuild damaged tissue. All of which also helps workout recovery and protection from dehydration in strenuous activities.

4. Pros and cons of being in the water business?

On the pro side, the upside potential is unbelievable. For instance, bottled water passed a major milestone in 2016 when it surpassed carbonated soft drinks to become the largest beverage category by volume in the United States. Also, according to the Beverage Marketing Corporation (BMC), total bottled water volume grew from 11.8 billion gallons in 2015 to 12.8 billion gallons in 2016, an increase of nearly 9 percent. This marked the third year in a row of accelerating growth. In terms of sales, revenues for the U.S. bottled water market in 2016 were nearly $16 billion in wholesale dollars, a 7.4% increase over the previous year and that increased to almost 19 billion in 2018. Nearly all of the bottled water sold in the U.S. is sourced domestically. In fact, imported bottled water accounts for only 1% of the U.S. market.

And yet, despite the bottled water industry's size, the amount of water actually sold is relatively tiny, compared to tap water volumes. U.S. public water systems supply more than 1 billion gallons of tap water an hour, every hour of the day. Meaning that the total amount of bottled water Americans buy in one year would only supply U.S. tap water needs from midnight until 9 a.m. on January 1. So there is huge potential for growth and market penetration without over saturation. In terms of challenges, the most stringent are the ones we set for ourselves. In general, we have the same issues as any company breaking into an existing market. We have to separate ourselves from the others, really make our brand stand out. However, we have also set very high standards for our water. We have to meet those standards right out of the gate. This means that every person and every machine had to be 100 percent on mission.

5. Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?

We expect that the Liquids Club will be a lifestyle leader. That we will be setting trends well beyond the water industry. The company will be at the forefront of music, concerts, fashion, and fitness.
