Asun Eastwood - "Nimbus" Album | @AsunEastwood

Belize-born, Toronto-based artist Asun Eastwood’s debut EP, Nimbus, is brimming with mafioso-rap tales that are both lyrically rich and straight from the soul. Across these nine tracks, the up-and-coming rapper tells his horror stories through the lens of someone who’s actually lived them—because he actually did.

This is evident not just in the way Eastwood details his run-ins with other cats in city but in the clear-cut facts that he’s been through some shit. As he outlines on standout cut “Asun’s Story,” he lost his brother at a young age and was also shot, stabbed, and left for dead.

His resilience alone would make Nimbus especially gripping, but he also happens to be an extremely gifted emcee. As he raps on the Bomber Ph.D-produced burner “Winner’s Circle”: “I seen a lot through the years/ My own folks did me dirty/ And all I did was give/ My loyalty’s been sturdy/ But all that adds to sh*t/ ‘Cause f*ckboys ain’t worthy/ No worries/ Here’s 30 for their chest/ Steph Curry.”

Elsewhere on the EP, Eastwood makes connections with some of underground rap’s finest and stands right alongside them. That goes for whether he’s paying tribute on the stark track “In Memory Of…” featuring Skyzoo, or getting especially gully with Conway The Machine and Koolaid The Rebel on “Mulatto Mixing.”

Nimbus is raw, no-punches-pulled hip-hop for the heads out there who are craving something to ride to. And if you’re feeling these nine tracks, be sure to check out Eastwood’s SoundCloud page to hear even more from the rising emcee.

Nimbus is now available through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms.
